We are crazy about Ramen! Kamukura Ramen (神座ラーメン) was the winner of Kansai Region’s Best Ramen in a TV competition a few years ago. Its first restaurant was opened in 1986 at Dotonburi. Today they have 11 restaurants in Osaka, 5 in Nara and 4 in Tokyo.

There are 30 choices on the menu! Like other Ramen-Ya and Gyudon-Ya you pick your choice and pay for it at the vending machine, to make life easier Kamukura Ramen posted their Top 5 Favourites and easy enough we picked the most popular one Cha Shu Ramen with Soft Boiled Egg (小チャーシュー煮卵ラーメン).

Once we got the ticket we entered the restaurant and were greeted by loud cheering voice Irashaimase (いらしゃいませ). We were then directed to two empty seats at the counter and handed our order ticket to the staff in the open kitchen. On the table there were condiments like garlic, scallions and soy sauce. Because we just had a Chocolate Croissant we decided to share one Ramen, without asking the friendly staff gave us an extra small bowl which has Arigatou (ありがとう) written at the bottom.

Ramen Eating Etiquette: first taste the soup, then noodles and pork. A good broth is the key successful criteria to a good ramen. Kamukura’s broth is a Shoyu (soy sauce) based chicken and pork soup. It’s clear but rich in flavours. You can see the liquid fat almost emulsified with the soup! The ramen comes with lots of shredded cabbage which soften the greasy feeling and the soft boiled egg is sinfully delicious.

Kamukura Ramen is just located opposite of the Apple Store in Shinsaibashi, there’s a poster of Wentworth Miller from Prison Break so you won’t miss it!
